Aspen Ideas Festival
Designing Workplace Culture and Healthy Organizations
Mon Jun 10 2019

At the 2019 Aspen Ideas Festival, I led a workshop and discussion on how rituals create meaning in our daily lives and workplaces. In the session, Make Your Life Better with Rituals: Crafting Meaning with Intentional Acts, I explored how small, intentional behaviors can build stronger teams, deepen relationships, and enhance personal well-being.
Drawing from my book Rituals for Work, I shared how creative rituals can transform both professional and personal life. I introduced a framework for designing rituals that foster belonging, creativity, and resilience, and highlighted examples from innovative organizations that use rituals to strengthen culture.
One example I shared is the Gratitude Circle, a simple yet powerful ritual where team members regularly express appreciation for one another’s contributions. By setting aside time to recognize each other, teams build a culture of trust and positivity, reinforcing shared values and strengthening connections.
The Aspen Ideas Festival is known for bringing together leading thinkers and practitioners to discuss big ideas that shape society, business, and culture. This session emphasized that rituals are more than just routines—they are tools for making life and work more meaningful.
